The Door of Hope

Good Food and Fellowship

The Food

All of our food is prepared daily in our kitchen by manager Krista with assistance
 from our volunteers & staff.

Our kitchen strives to use  fresh ingredients that are donated daily by No Frills and Co-op Grocery located in Meadow Lake.

Come down and enjoy a take home meal of delicious soups, stews, roasts, fresh salads, home style desserts and other thoughtfully prepared foods.

We always welcome volunteers to help prepare and serve, stop in and ask us how you can join.

The Fellowship

The Door of Hope is more than just a drop in center and soup kitchen, it is a community. We celebrate together, we grieve together, we encourage and care for one another.
Even though we are a Soup Kitchen and Food Bank, our services do not stop there. Our
Community Members are like family, and we dearly love them and want to see them succeed in their lives. We like to invest in our Community Members whenever and however we can. We take the time to compassionately listen to people, to not judge their circumstances, and try to understand their point of view and how they see the world so that we can help in any way possible.

Moreover, we find out people’s strengths and play on their assets to build up their confidence and self esteem. We love on people, encourage people, and provide hope. Moreover, we celebrate all community Members birthdays with a present, cake, and recognition. Some people have wept tears of joy and expressed how they never in their
life had their birthday celebrated. Being able to celebrate birthdays fills our hearts with both joy and sadness as this is the reality of some of these peoples that they go unnoticed and not celebrated.
We also provide parents with birthday presents for their children when they are struggling to do so themselves. But it keeps getting better, we also celebrate people’s accomplishments like securing housing, finding jobs, having their families move back in with them, etc., To us, these things worth celebrating are just as important as the food we provide. Sometimes people say to us things like: “I’ve never had anyone ask me how I was and what I want out of life” or “No one ever cared as much as you people do, thank you.”
We also grieve together and come together to get through tough situations. Simply, sometimes people just need to feel like they are loved and cared for and this can have such a wonderful effect on their lives.
