The Meadow Lake Food Bank is a department of Meadow Lake Outreach Ministries. Our goal is to provide food security for individuals and families located in the RM of Meadow Lake.
We feed anywhere from 80-120 peoples per day. The Door of Hope Soup Kitchen’s daily budget to feed this many people is only $30.00. As a result, it is easy to see how much we rely on donations. Our amazingly talented Cook/Door of Hope Manager works in creative ways, with the food items she has, to provide healthy and nutritious meals to our Community Members.

In the 2023 yearly report from the Executive Director, it notes that:

- We were able to provide 2,816 food hampers to families/individuals in need.
- Children were provided with food security 2,924 times.
- 18,478 adults were provided with lunch at the Door of Hope Soup Kitchen.
- We were able to provide 154,980 lbs. of food to our Community Members.
- We were able to provide tens of thousands of additional pounds of food to other
organizations such as Healing Haven Wildlife Rescue Inc., Flying Dust First Nation,
Turning Point Youth Centre, Meadow Lake Homeless Shelter, Waskoosis Shelter, and
more!

The Door of Hope Departments appreciate and love to receive donations from community
members and businesses, but we also love to give when we can! For example, bread that has gone moldy
and our potato and vegetable peelings, from preparing our daily lunches, get donated to Healing Haven
Wildlife Rescue Inc., to help feed the Northwest’s injured and orphaned wildlife. It is a harsh reality that
our Door of Hope Community Members, who are almost entirely Indigenous Peoples, are also sometimes
orphaned and injured on psychological, social, physical, and spiritual levels. The staff at the Door of
Hope have a keen understanding of the colonial history and injustices which have brought about historical
and intergenerational traumas which impact the lives of these Peoples and those in which they associate.
From food insecurity, to homelessness, to major drug addiction, we have witnessed it all and work on the
front line to bring people hope, peace, food, clothing, feminine hygiene products, household products,
baby products, and many other essential supplies to foster a sense of autonomy and security.
